Warton Windmill: post mill function:Corn mill - sunken trestle - most repeated story is that this was vandalized and remains removed from site

Despite the accepted story that the post was vandalized, and removed from the site, there is some evidence that there were still remains on site long after that was thought to have happened. The post was photographed in situ in 1999 as part of Images of England. In 2001 a planning application was made, but later withdrawn, to move the post, and to develop the site as residential. A video interviewed the occupant of the mill house in the late 2010s, and showed the millstones still in the garden, and there is talk of the post still being present in the undergrowth. The aerial images in Google Earth from 2015 show one of the millstones, though subsequent years are unclear or from a poor direction to avoid being obscured by trees. By 2023 it appears that the land was being cleared, and by 2025 it is now a lorry park.
