On the River Ock, much of the machinery of this mill remained in the 1970s, though the 14ft by 7ft undershot wheel had gone by then.

On the Childrey Brook, the mill ceased working c 1939. In the 1960s the building was used for hens and a garage; in the 1980s it was being restored, utilising the metal gear and breastshot wheel, which were complete.

This very popular mill makes appearances in a number of film and TV roles, perhaps most famously in the film "The Eagle has Landed". It also appears in print a lot, including on the album cover of Black Sabbath's first album.
