The New Zealand and Australian Land Company, Totara, have just effected a sale of their Kakanui flour mill and about 25 acres of land; with mill siding complete, to Messrs' Clark Bros., at a satisfactory price. Our Oamaru correspondent understands that a new quarry of the celebrated Oamaru stone has been discovered, and is about to be worked by Messrs Clark Bros., near their Maheno Flour Mill, on the north bank of the Kakanui river.
North Otago Times, 3 March 1906
With regard to the fire at Messrs Clark Bros' mill at Maheno, we learn that the insurances are held by the Phoenix Assurance Company, and the damage is not extensive, the roof having chiefly suffered. We are informed that about £7O or £8O is about the extent of the damage. The fire originated in the kiln for drying oatmeal, but was at once suppressed by the men working on the premises.
North Otago Times, 9 July 1908
The Kakanui river at Maheno is at present very high, and in Messrs Clark Bros.' mill the water is about four feet in depth. Should the rain continue throughout the night one of the heaviest floods yet seen in the district will have to be recorded. At present the river is about as high as it has been seen for many a year.[homepage] [info] [info] [info] [info] [news] [news] [news] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo] [photo]
