Details
Leicester Herald, 01 February 1832 Eckington.- Thursday night, between 10 and 11 o'clock, a wind-mill, situated near Eckington, belonging to Messrs. Wilson, was discovered to be in flames, by a person named Banker, in the employ of Mr. Wilson. Sir G. Sitwell, observing the fire, sent down all his men servants from Renishaw, with an engine, but the mill was completely destroyed, only the ladder and stock remaining. As there was neither fire or candle-light in the mill for the last fortnight, the fire is supposed to be the work of an incendiary. There was in it, at the time, a load of wheat and a sack of barley belonging to a labourer named Woodhead. The premises were insured for about half their value. |
