Windmills of Madeira

Whilst the Portuguese island of Maderia certainly catches the wind, being an island out in the Atlantic, its mountainous terrain has made it historically more suitable for watermills than windmills. However, recent developments have seen the installations of wind farms at a number of locations on the island.

Traditional windmills are however to be found on its near neighbour, Porto Santo just 20km away.
