Windmills of Paris
Montmartre
Montmartre has long been associated with artists, and perhaps even longer with
windmills. Artists who painted the areas mills famously include Renoir,
Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh.
Whilst surviving paintings do not necessarily give a true picture of what the
windmills once looked like, they are at least a start, and a familiar
introduction to the mills of this area.
Moulin Radet
A reconstructed post mill, for many years reduced to just 2 sails only, but
in very recent times the 4 sails have been reinstated. The mill is atop a
restaurant which goes by the name of "Moulin de la Galette".

Moulin de la Galette
Another mostly reconstructed post mill - with its 4 sail stocks, and a
distinctive rooftop balcony. The mill was a dance-hall at the end of the
19th century, with interior views of the dancing amongst the famous
paintings of the period.
To confuse things, the names of the Moulin Radet and Moulin de la Galette
are often reversed or used interchangably.

Moulin Rouge
Whilst the mill represented outside this famous Paris nightclub is nothing
more than a neon outlined fake, it's so well known that it would be churlish
not to give it some recognition on these pages.
Of course, the nightclub also gave rise to the Nicole Kidman film
Moulin Rouge - the latest of 6 films with this title.
