An 1824 memorandum in the Mildred Cookson collection ( MCFC-1125053) appears to relate to this mill. It describes the agreement between Robert John Atkinson, agent of William Aldam, and James Hart, millwright, to tear down a bone and flour mill on ground belonging to William Aldam in Scawby, in the occupation of James Sutton, and replace it with a corn wind mill.

Sass (2012, p. 108) records that the mill was advertised in 1829 as newly erected with three storeys and four sails driving two pairs of stones. Two further storeys were later added. The tower was derelict by the First World War. It collapsed around 1993; the present tower which is part of a house is a reconstruction.
