Bull Ring Centre:
half sized Dutch style post mill
- Temporary installation in the East Court for the "Holland is Here" exhibition, 1965
It's surprisingly hard to find information on this event, but via the captions on the Laings archive photos, we learn
- The exhibition opened on 25/2/1965, and ran through the first week of March.
- The Netherlands Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, J. Bakker opened the event, which was organised in partnership with the Netherlands National Tourist Office
- Demonstrations included clog making, pottery making and painting, plus displays of Dutch glass, windmills, and fresh flowers
- The April 1965 edition of Laings Team Spirit newsletter had an article on the exhibition
As well as the half sized post mill in the East Court, there was also a Dutch smock mill on the roof of the Fine Fare supermarket.
The post mill appeared to be preexisting, not just built for the event (the sails look old and cracked!),
and carried a description board, of which the only discernable words are "a half" and "model".
The exhibition featured on a
post mark showing an abstract representation of a Dutch tower mill.
