The
California Coastal Conservancy has awarded a $750,000 grant to rebuild
the tower of the Murphy windmill in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.
The sails and machinery have already been shipped to the Netherlands for
refurbishment, so the money will help restore the tower ready for their
return, along with landscaping around both the park's windmills. The full
cost of restoration of both mills is estimated at $6.5 million. The hope
is that the Murphy windmill will be back pumping water in a years time.
