Thaxted windmill was
officially reopened by Lord Petre, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex
on Friday, 8th April. The restoration project over the past few years cost £314,000, with much of the grant coming from
the Heritage Lottery fund. Work to rebuild the top of the tower which began shedding bricks was complicated by the need to
get a crane to the mill site - which in turn needed the construction of a temporary road across nearby fields.
In recognition of the support shown by the public in fundraising for the mill restoration, admission to the mill this year will
be free. The mill opens on saturdays, sundays, and bank holidays until late September.
