energy Wind turbines on the cover of Physics World magazine

Item: #938, Posted: 31/8/26
It's a while since I've noticed a magazine cover with a subject relevant to this site, so I was initially pleased to see that the July 2026 issue of Physics World magazine has a couple of wind turbines shown on its cover. However on closer inspection, I see this is to my mind a pretty terrible cover - this is not a photo of real wind turbines, but instead is a very crude computer drawing of turbines, comprised of lines and poorly shaded triangles. From the credit inside the magazine, I traced the source to this Shutterstock image. It looks as if they simply did a search of stock photos for wind turbine and solar panels, and took the first image it came up with.

The cover image accompanies an interior feature titled "What physicists can do to support the green economy". This feature itself is a further recycling of existing material - it's a set of edited extracts from a panel debate held at the Institute of Physics in London.
