Fire.- A calamitous fire occurred in the Motueka district on Tuesday last, the 24th instant, which totally destroyed the Riwaka Flour Mill. We understand that the Mill was a recent erection, and by its destruction the proprietors, Messrs. Drummond and Mickle, have been reduced to great distress. A subscription has been set on foot for their benefit, and we shall be happy to receive any contributions at the Examiner Office.Nelson Examiner and New Zealand Chronicle, Volume XII, Issue 587, 4 June 1853, Page 57
MESSRS. MICKLE and DRUMMOND, of Rewaka, having at considerable expense and great labour just completed a new FLOUR MILL, it was on the morning of the 24th instant, unfortunately BURNT to the ground. The attention of the public throughout the Settlement of Nelson is respectfully called to this statement, as it is believed there can scarcely be a case more deserving of all the assistance it maybe in their power to render; as Messrs. MICKLE and DRUMMOND, who are both labouring men with large families, not only suffer the loss of their mill, but are deprived of all their usual means of support until a new one can be erected.
SUBSCRIPTIONS will be received by Mr. Elliott, at the Office of the 'Examiner,' Mr. Ross, at the Wakatu Hotel, and by Mr. Rankin. Bridge Street, Nelson.
