Catchpool's Mill:

1849 - Brees, S. C. Pictorial Illlustrations of New Zealand

There are four mills for grinding corn in Port Nicholson--viz., Mr. Catchpool's steam-mill, which was taken to the Colony by Dr. Evans, and at work so early as October, 1841

New Zealand Gazette and Wellington Spectator, Volume 11, Issue 74, 11 September 1841

Mr. Catchpool put his steam mill into operation a few days since, and it worked to his satisfaction. The engine drives two sets of griss stones and a circular saw. Logs are being brought from the Hutt and about the Bay for the use of this saw mill, which we hope will now soon contribute some wood to the market, for which there is a great demand. We believe this is the first steam mill erected in New Zealand. We heartily wish Mr. Catchpool every success.

A LARGE quantity of Maize for Sale, Ground and Whole. Parties may have their own Maize Ground at 1s. per bushel.
EDWARD CATCHPOOL. December 20, 1842.

This doesn't specifically name the mill, but given at the time there were only 2 mills in Wellington, and Catchpool's was the only one that had been milling for long enough to make annual comparisons meaningful, it seems probable that this was referring to Catchpool's mill: New Zealand Gazette and Wellington Spectator, Volume V, Issue 344, 15 May 1844, Page 2

AGRICULTURE.
One of the most gratifying facts with which we have become acquainted recently, was communicated to us the other day by a gentleman who has a mill in this town. He stated that he had been comparing the quantity of grain taken to be ground at his mill this year, by certain small farmers, with the quantity the same parties took last year, and the result of the comparison was, that those who took, four and five bushels last year, had taken thirty and thirty-five this year. This valuable class of settlers may therefore be considered to have produced sufficient grain this season to supply the wants of their own families; and if they only double the quantity next year, each farmer will produce a surplus sufficient to supply a family of similar extent, otherwise occupied.
