Wanganui Chronicle, Volume XX, Issue 3464, 11 September 1877

CREDITABLE.— According to the Advocate, Mr D. Murray, proprietor of tbe Wanganui Foundry, was the successful tenderer for the whole of the plant of the Sandon Steam Flour Mill, excepting the shell. Designs were sent in by Messrs E. W. Mills nnd J. Dickenson, of Wellington, and John Glasgow, of Turakina, all of which were considered very good, but that of Mr Murray carried off the palm, winning the prize of £20 offered by the directors. Tenders were also sent in by these gentlemen, as well as by Messrs Robinson and Co., Wright and Edwards, and Robinson Brothers, of Melbourne, and Guthrie and Larnach, of Dunedin, of which Mr Murray's tender was accepted at £1,431. We congratulate Mr Murray on having successfully competed with such emineut firms as these. It is a feather in his cap of which he may justly feel proud.

SANDON.
(FROM our own correspondent.)
Some very elaborate plans were sent in for the Sandon Steam Flour Mill. That of Mr. David Murray, of Wanganui, was considered by the directors to be the best; and also his tender for the whole of the machinery for the mill for the sum of £1431. Plans were also sent in by Mr. Dickenson of Wellington and Mr. John Glasgow of Turakina, which were all very commendable. The directors have since called for tenders for the erection of the necessary buildings. The works are to be commenced immediately and completed by the first week in March.
