EARLY WANGANUI.There are a few references to "Windmill Gully" as being an alternative name for the Pinnacles in Castlecliff (and by extension, that has given its name to a species of muscle found there 'Botula (Notobotula) molina'), and there is a road called "Mill Road" that crosses the hillside of Castlecliff.
... Mr S. Hentson started a brickyard at the lower end of Wilson-street, and carried it on for many years. A windmill and a distillery were started near Castlecliff, and a small schooner was built at the mouth of the Tutaeheka stream just below Mr Field's house.
