Mahurangi, New Zealand 🌍

Mahurangi (#nz84)

farm windmill:
Date: circa 1956

Illustrated in an Eric Lee-Johnson artwork dated circa 1956 held by Te Papa. Shows four flat blades tied to each other with square bracing, on an iron shaft, which also has 2 wooden pulleys of different sizes. The pulleys have a lighter coloured middle - unclear if this just represents them being made of 3 boards stuck together, or if the middle is actually a v-shape, suggesting a rope was used to transmit the power to other devices. The foreground shows some device that could be either a pump, or a dynamo - the view of this is obscured by a cart wheel and barbed wire.
