A battle has begun to
save the oldest windmill in Scotland, at Carluke.
Part of the A-listed High Mill in Chapel Street, dating from 1797,
recently collapsed and planning officials have served a repairs notice
on the Kirkton Estate which owns it, to demand the building is preserved.
South Lanarkshire Council and Historic Scotland are in talks about the
possible funding of the mill's repairs.
