Until a few years ago, all that remained of Great Mill, Sheerness was the brick base. However in 2006 a planning application was made to rebuild the structure in a form resembling the original smock mill (though using steel rather than wood for the structural components), for residential purposes.
The project suffered a major fire in early 2008, but the structural framework was still sound, and rebuilding has continued, and last month the new business tenants, Sharrock's Insurance finally moved in. (I'm not sure where along the way the plans changed from residential to business use).
BRFM, a local radio station, has an interview with Caleb Watson, the man who was responsible for rebuilding the mill structure.
