As Paul Kemp, the millwright working on Upminster windmill noted, in March the mill's curb was leveled, and the mill once again is able to turn to wind automatically (the first time for 60 years). In fact, once the sails came round in to the wind, on releasing the brake, they were also able to turn by wind.
This weekend was National Mills Weekend, and Upminster mill was suitably decked out in bunting for the occasion. The wind cooperated, and the mill could be seen turning by wind. There is video of the mill in action.
